Maria Mercedes is a Colombian ecologist, a specialist in Ecology and Conservation and has a MSc in Management and Conservation of Biodiversity in the Tropics.
She has worked for over 17 years in management and land use, promoting the ecosystem approach, sustainable production and participation and social dialogue as frameworks for social and corporate governance. Her focus is on rural economic development, climate change, ecological restoration of landscapes and ecosystems, land use and development, strategic planning and management of development projects.
Her specific experience in coffee growing starts since childhood, since she comes from the Cauca coffee region in Colombia. She has developed several projects that promote sustainable coffee production in Andean landscapes in several countries. She brings her extensive experience to the coordination of the platform and the project “Sustainable Development Model for Peruvian coffee.”
