The collaboration with the CDC taking on the SCAN coordination in Vietnam has been very positive, with active implementation of the project (developing training materials, facilitating SCAN meetings, help-desk trainings, and supporting an online information portal). The CDC recently participated in several interesting events:
5th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival, March 9th to 12th, 2015. For 3 days, from March 9th to 11th, the CDC’s Information Portal Supporting Sustainable Agriculture Development set up 6 Mobile Help Desks, which attracted 5000 visitors and answered 275 questions related to key cultivation issues by the farmers. Ceremony recognizing the support for the Information Portal, March 12th, 2015. With the slogan, “Together Giving Hands Towards the Prosperity of the Community”, the objective of the ceremony was to thank the sponsors, members of the Advisory Board and the Consultant Board of the Information Portal for their support in making the program a success. The ceremony welcomed more than 300 delegates and guests from the government, ministries, departments, provincial committees, the United Nations office in Vietnam, institutes, universities, international traders/ roasters such as NESTLE, MONDELEZ, and FOLGERS, associations, and domestic and international small and medium enterprises. During the ceremony, commemorative medals were awarded to organizations and individuals representing the sponsors, the Advisory Board and the Consultant Board, including SCAN. Ceremony recognizing the capacity of the Vietnam Certification Body (VSCB), March 12th, 2015. The VSCB operates as a certification body to certify the management systems and products of farmers and companies and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in compliance with voluntary sustainable standards as well as ISO and Vietnam standards. Participants included Ministry and Department representatives and over 300 guests, along with media agencies. The ceremony included accreditation for two ISO standards (ISO/IEC 17065:2012 and ISO/IEC 17021:2011) by the Bureau of Accreditation (BoA) and recognition of the VSCB as a Certification Body under VietGAP by the Department of Crops and Production – Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The VSCB Vietnam is accredited not only in Vietnam but also in Asia, and in the future plans to extend its certification activities into energy, organic agriculture and green growth, among others.
