The aim of the national conference is to promote technical assistance and quality as strategies for strengthening Peru’s sustainable coffee value chain.
Increased coffee production and high quality cupping are possible with quality technical assistance.
Despite Peru’s favorable conditions for the production of specialty coffees, providing quality technical assistance to the coffee farmer is key to ensure a sustainable value chain with high quality cupping.
To that end, the SCAN Peru platform and the Junta Nacional de Café (JNC) through the Sustainable Development Model for Peruvian Coffee project have organized the First National Conference on Technical Assistance and Quality for the Sustainable Coffee Value Chain to be held from August 22nd to 25th at the Four Point Miraflores Hotel in Lima.
The aim of the conference is to promote technical assistance and quality as strategies for strengthening the Peruvian sustainable coffee value chain.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MINAGRI), Peru exports 10% of organic coffee globally. Conquering new international markets will only be possible if the Peruvian coffee industry develops and if Peruvian coffee farmers receive technical support to implement good agricultural practices and reach the quality standards demanded by the market.
The international conference is divided into three sections:
- International Course on Methodologies for Technical Assistance in Specialty Coffees;
- First National Seminar on Technical Assistance in Sustainable Coffee Farming; and
- First International Workshop on Quality in Specialty Coffee.
In addition to these events, there will be major launches such as the launch of the National Centre of Innovation for Sustainable Coffee (CEINCAFE) and the National School of Technical Assistance for field promoters in sustainable coffee farming.
To end the event, there will be a presentation of the achievements and impacts of the Sustainable Development Model for Peruvian Coffee project. This First National Conference will mark the successful closing of this project, which has been providing technical assistance to coffee farmers on sustainable agriculture and high quality coffee. SCAN hopes to leave a path towards continuing to improve the Peruvian sustainable coffee value chain.
