The Sustainable Commodity Initiative (SCI) recently presented several of its programmes at the World Trade Organization (WTO) Public Forum 2014 in Geneva, as part of a panel on ‘Voluntary Sustainability Standards: Building Equity in and Access to Sustainable Markets’.
David Cuming moderated the panel on behalf of IISD and the State of Sustainability Initiatives (SSI) and presented the SSI Review 2014 and SAMCERT (IFAD-funded grant -Strengthening Smallholders’ Access to Markets for Certified Sustainable Products). Christopher Wunderlich presented the SCAN programme and the key role that technical assistance plays in sustainable development and sustainable agriculture, in particular for smallholders in producer countries.
The panel also included stimulating presentations by Frank Grothaus of the United Nations Forum on Sustainability Standards (UNFSS) and Ragnar Wetterblad on behalf of the Finance Alliance for Sustainable Trade (FAST).
